No Free Drinks
Dec. 5th, 2009 11:57 pmDrove up to Sydney again on Friday after leaving work early. I often find it hard to leave early. Strange that.
Today was spent visiting a few shops and helping Ma Cherie Zoologiste disassemble her bed as she moved house. Then it was off to Bradfield Campaign HQ for the post election celebration (or comiserations as the case may be.)
I rang them yesterday before I left work and volunteered to do my duty on a polling both as I've done before. They said they would get back to me but never did, so my contribution to the campaign was the demographic profile I wrote and some time last weekend campaigning in Chatswood.
All the same I turned up to the post election celebrations (they were celebrations after all) to find out that they had a cash bar.
A CASH BAR!!!
There were people who had poured hours of volunteer labor into the campaign, and the Liberal association in one of the richest parts of the country couldn't even shout them a beer at the end. The Nats never fail to put on a good party after the election, even when we lose.
Latest results: Paul Fletcher (LIB) 55.38% Down 4.74%
So he won on primary votes without going to preferences.
Interestingly third place went to the Australian Sex Party who recently protested the Catch the Fire Ministries atop Mount Ainslie. The got nearly 3.5% of the vote. I wonder what their post election party was like.
