Flat Stanley

I got something in the post yesterday from my niece's school in Canada.  It was a figure about eight inches tall and made from coloured paper.  I thought that it may have been an artistic rendering of yours truly given that it had glasses and all, but the accompanying letter explained it all.

It seems their year 1 class read a story recently wherein a boy named Stanley is squished flat somehow (slightly disturbing imagery for six year olds I thought) and then discovers that he can post himself to his friends far away.

So the students made their own Flat Stanley and sent it to friends and relatives far away.  Apparently I am the most distant person my niece knows.

The idea is for me to take photos of Flat Stanley at local landmarks and send them back to Canada.  I think that's a great idea and I have been buzzing with ideas about where Flat Stanley might go on his journey.

So far FS had had his photo taken with WT.  He's been in Parliament for 20 years, so I reckon he qualifies as a local landmark.



I suspect he is the only one in the class who will have his photo taken with the leader of a political party.

I'm trying to arrange pics with other political leaders, pics with Parliament in the background, pics of FS at the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House and on Collaroy Beach.  I would like to get one with the Prime Minister, but somehow I don't think Kevin is likely to oblige.  One of my colleagues has a cardboard cutout that could stand in for the PM.  Cardboard Kev would have a lot in common with Flat Stanley, and he would probably have more personality than the flesh and blood version too.

From there I've thought about sending him on to friends overseas.  Perhaps FS can circle the globe.

We never did anything this cool when I was at school in the 80s.

TW: 500m row, 10 90kg deadlifts with dumbbells, 20 pullups.  Three rounds.  Crossfit kicked me around today.
