Oktoberfest war ein großer erfolg

Oktoberfest went very well.
The house was pretty nicely decked out.
A 92 year old neighbour came by surprised that we had a German fancy dress theme. (I was just glad she didn't think the war was still on.) She also assumed from the fact that we had put our names on the notice we circulated that Malice and I were married and Helga and Roxy were our two daughters.
(Do we look like a German married couple?)
Cupcake Goddess cam dressed as a pencil (a red and black Staedler pencil made in Germany) and Mitzi came adorned with cabbage with an annoyed expression n her face which made her a sour Kraut. (She also became probably the first person in the world to ever bring me flowers, as she managed to win some at Floriade.) Her fella came dressed in black with bits of foliage stuck to him, making him the Black Forest. Most everyone else came in the same style as myself. I wondered if Canberra's retail establishments were surprised by the sudden demand for braces (or suspenders if you prefer to call them that) and knee socks.
Coffee Snob also came.
It was good to have friends from various parts of my life all come together and all get along so well. Work friends, social friends, gym friends, ex housemates, current housemates, everyone got along really well (with the exception of the really annoying and obnoxious guy who worked with Roxy and who we have agreed to blacklist from further Chez Canuck events.)
We even danced.
(This was just after I had accidentally kicked Malice during a slap dance.)
We grilled up some wurst and ate it with sauerkraut.
And we drank.
A lot. Here it was schnapps for Malice, Roxy, Helga and I, but for most of the evening I was on the surprisingly cheap german beer we had picked up. Today's hangover was actually quite limited. (I even made it to the gym, though others were a bit more fragile.)
I went to bed around 4:00am but some of the others were up until about 6:00. By the time I got up, the tidying up gnomes had been to visit.
This was a lot neater than I expected the place to look.
All in all, it went off better than I had expected. I've been to a lof of house parties since being in Canberra, and it's so nice to live in a place where I can be a part of putting one on. I am normally hopeless at organising events but this worked out so well.
For any of you who missed it, I just want to say I'm very disappointed in you.
